Maintaining Absolute Purity: Overmolded Connectors for Semiconductor Ultrapure Water Systems

In modern semiconductor fabrication plants (Fabs), water is just as critical as silicon. Ultrapure Water (UPW) is used extensively to clean wafers between intricate photolithography and etching steps. This water is stripped of all minerals, particulates, and dissolved gases to an extreme degree.
To maintain this absolute purity, UPW systems rely on highly sensitive resistivity sensors, flow meters, and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzers. However, UPW is known as the "universal solvent" because its extreme purity makes it highly aggressive; it will actively leach ions and chemicals out of standard plastics and rubbers. When standard electrical connectors are used near UPW lines, the risk of chemical leaching and micro-contamination threatens millions of dollars in wafer yields. To ensure flawless sensor operation and zero contamination, Fab engineers specify YCZXF’s overmolded (injection-molded) waterproof cable assemblies.
Wiring sensors in a UPW facility involves battling unique micro-contamination threats:
Chemical Leaching (Outgassing): Standard field-wireable connectors utilize generic PVC and rubber O-rings. When exposed to the aggressive nature of UPW or cleanroom sanitizers, these materials slowly leach plasticizers, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and trace metals into the environment, ruining UPW purity.
Micro-Bacterial Traps: Even in heavily treated UPW loops, trace biofilm can develop in microscopic dead legs. Standard mechanical connectors feature threaded locking nuts and seams that create perfect micro-crevices where particulate matter and bacteria can accumulate.
Liquid Ingress in Wet Benches: Sensors mounted directly inside wet benches or near UPW distribution manifolds require an absolute liquid barrier to prevent short circuits from high-pressure spray.
YCZXF custom-engineers cable assemblies that completely isolate your cleanroom hardware while maintaining the strictest purity standards.
1. Premium, Low-Leaching MaterialsWe strictly avoid standard commercial plastics for semiconductor applications. YCZXF selects premium, industrial-grade Polyurethane (PUR) and specialized, highly stable thermoplastic blends. These materials are heavily vetted for low outgassing and zero ion-leaching, ensuring they will never introduce trace contaminants into your UPW environment.
2. A Monolithic, Crevice-Free ExteriorBy injecting the thermoplastic directly over the connector core and cable jacket, we create a single, continuous surface. Without exposed threads or separate mechanical backshells, there are absolutely no microscopic crevices for particulates or biofilms to accumulate. This ultra-smooth profile makes routine cleanroom wipe-downs incredibly fast and effective.
3. Absolute IP68 Liquid SealingThe overmolding process chemically bonds the outer shell to the cable, creating an impenetrable IP68 hermetic seal. Whether your connectors are mounted directly above a UPW holding tank or near a high-pressure distribution valve, the YCZXF seal completely blocks moisture from reaching the critical electrical contacts.
