Measuring the Flow: IP67 Overmolded M16 Connectors for Dairy Instrumentation

In commercial dairy processing, mixing raw milk, butterfat, and flavorings requires absolute volumetric precision. To achieve this, facilities rely on advanced Coriolis mass flow meters and multi-parameter transmitters. Because these sophisticated instruments measure flow rate, density, and temperature simultaneously, they generate massive amounts of analog data.
To transmit this multi-channel data back to the central PLC, a standard 4-pin or 8-pin M12 is insufficient. Instrumentation engineers specify the high-density M16 Circular Connector, which can house up to 24 individual pins in a compact shell. However, a dairy plant is an incredibly hostile environment for high-pin-count electronics. The equipment is subjected to daily high-pressure Clean-In-Place (CIP) washdowns. If moisture breaches a 14-pin connector, the tightly packed pins instantly short-circuit, causing the flow meter to output erratic data and ruining thousands of gallons of product. To guarantee absolute measurement accuracy and sanitary compliance, food-tech engineers specify the liquid-tight architecture of YCZXF’s Overmolded M16 Instrumentation Cables.
The High-Density Washdown Threat
Pin Density and Capillary Shorts: In an M16 connector, the pins are packed millimeters apart. If a standard, field-wireable M16 plug is blasted with 90°C (194°F) water, capillary action draws moisture directly into the pin cluster. The resulting cross-talk between the analog signal pins completely corrupts the flow meter's output.
Biological Traps on Metal Housings: Standard M16 connectors feature deep, knurled metal locking rings. In a dairy environment, these deep grooves act as traps for sticky milk proteins, making it impossible to pass strict FDA sanitation audits.
The YCZXF IP67 Shield: YCZXF completely encapsulates the M16 core in a solid, injection-molded PUR block, creating an impenetrable IP67/IP69K hermetic seal. Furthermore, we replace deep-knurled metal rings with ultra-smooth, crevice-free locking nuts, allowing sanitation crews to easily spray down the flow meter without risking electrical shorts or bacterial growth.
